Cookie Policy
Short version: We set as few cookies as possible. You can change your choices any time via the "Cookie settings" button in the bottom-left of every page.
1. What are cookies?
"Cookies" is shorthand for any browser storage mechanism a website uses to remember information across visits — including HTTP cookies, localStorage, and sessionStorage. They're not a privacy threat by themselves; the question is what's stored and who reads it.
2. Categories of cookies we use
Strictly necessary — always on
Required for the site to function correctly. These are stored exclusively on your device using localStorage and are never transmitted to a server.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
consent_v1 | Records your cookie consent choice. | 12 months |
langBannerDismissed | Remembers that you dismissed the language-suggestion banner. | Persistent until cleared |
Analytics — optional, off by default
If enabled and you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate, anonymous traffic. We do not enable advertising or remarketing features in Analytics. IP addresses are anonymized.
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique visitors anonymously. | 2 years |
_ga_* | Persists session state for Google Analytics 4. | 2 years |
Advertising — optional, off by default
If enabled and you consent, we use Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense may set cookies for ad delivery, frequency capping, and (if you allow) personalization. If you decline, you'll see non-personalized contextual ads where required by law (or no ads at all if not yet enabled).
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
__gads · __gpi · IDE | Set by Google to deliver ads, measure performance, and limit how often you see the same ad. | up to 2 years |
3. Managing your choices
You control optional cookies in three ways:
- Consent banner. Shown on your first visit. Choose Accept all, Reject all, or Customize.
- Cookie settings reopener. The small "Cookie settings" button in the bottom-left of every page reopens the banner whenever you want to change your choices.
- Browser controls. All major browsers let you block or delete cookies via their settings. Note: blocking strictly necessary cookies will break the consent banner itself.
4. Third-party cookies
Cookies set by Google AdSense and Google Analytics are governed by Google's policies, not ours. Read more:
- How Google uses cookies
- How Google uses cookies in advertising
- Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on
5. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no consensus standard for how sites should respond to DNT, so we do not use it as a primary signal. Use the consent banner instead — it's explicit and granular.
6. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when we add new third-party services or change how cookies are used. Changes are reflected in the "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects your privacy, we'll prompt you to revisit your consent choices.
